   I bought the ballpoint, ink pen and pencil several years ago and they ran over $200 each. Not getting any younger, I recently gave the set to an adopted grandson who had admired them. At the time I purchased them I was still of the mindset that expensive things proved you were somebody, that you had arrived, that you were successful. Over time, I came to realize making lots of money and buying expensive toys to display only revealed my insecurities. Displays of wealth typically are nothing but an external sign of an internal need. Shared this with you in case your interest in such pens came from the same need.

   If you haven’t already done so you may want to do an Internet search to determine today’s costs for these pens.

   By the way, a cheap BIC ballpoint actually writes more smoothly than a Mont Blanc. Too, the Mont Blanc ballpoint, despite the high price you pay for a refill, lets the ink gather in a glob that from time to time is deposited on your writing paper making it easy to smear. One other thing, when I went to have them engraved, I was told it couldn’t be done because, despite their high price, they’re made of plastic. Today’s technology may allow you to engrave them.

   Over $600 dollars.

   You are essentially buying the name, Mont Blanc, and not neccessarily a good writing instrument.
